HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate the members of
4 Masonic Lodge #260 in Mattoon as they celebrate the 150th
5 anniversary of the Lodge; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Mattoon Masonic Lodge #260 was chartered on
7 October 6, 1858; on October 8, 1873 a second lodge was formed
8 in Mattoon, the Circle Lodge #707; on April 30, 1896, ballots
9 were cast and the two lodges were consolidated, keeping the
10 name Mattoon Masonic Lodge #260; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Over the years the Mattoon Lodge has met in many
12 different locations; the lodge purchased property at 1421
13 Charleston Avenue on February 6, 1928 to erect a building; the
14 first meeting there was held on November 27, 1929; and
 
15     WHEREAS, A new lodge was built in 1991 at 116 North 1st
16 Street in Mattoon ; and
 
17     WHEREAS, The Mattoon Lodge is involved in many aspects of
18 the community, including: donating to the local food bank,
19 donating to the Public Action to Deliver Shelter (PADS),
20 donating to the Salvation Army, and donating to the local fire
21 department for special needs; in addition, the Lodge supports

1 the annual blood drive, the Cal Ripken Junior Baseball
2 Tournament, the High School JROTC program, the High School
3 Pride of the Greenwave Band Program, the High School Wavette
4 Dance Team, and the High School Academic Bowl Team; and
 
5     WHEREAS, The Mattoon Lodge has given out seven scholarships
6 over the last four years to Mattoon High School Seniors; and it
7 holds an annual CHIP program used for child identification;
8 therefore, be it
 
9     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
11 congratulate the members of Mattoon Masonic Lodge #260 as they
12 celebrate the anniversary with a rededication of the Lodge on
13 November 8, 2008; and be it further
 
14     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to Worshipful Master Terry A. Leffler as a symbol of
16 our respect.
