HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of United
4 States Army Private First Class Ja'Mel Bryant, of Belleville,
5 who was killed in action in Iraq, on September 27, 2008; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Ja'Mel A. Bryant died after a vehicle accident
7 while he was on patrol in Wahida, Iraq; U.S. Army Private First
8 Class Bryant was part of the 40th Engineer Battalion in the 1st
9 Armored Division's 2nd Brigade Combat Team in Baumholder,
10 Germany; he left for Iraq in April and returned briefly to the
11 United States in June before resuming his tour in Iraq; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Ja'Mel Bryant, who started a music career in
13 Belleville, joined the Army in 2006 because he wanted to change
14 his life for the better; he loved music and he loved children,
15 and often passed candy out to children in Iraq; and
 
16     WHEREAS, He taught himself how to play the piano and
17 recently produced a rap song with friends in Iraq about the
18 troubles he had growing up in order to help other children; and
 
19     WHEREAS, He wanted to go to school for engineering or for
20 music after the army; he was a former student at Belleville
21 West High School and remembered as a good student and a good

1 citizen; and
 
2     WHEREAS, Ja'Mel Bryant is survived by his mother, Cecilia
3 Eiland; his father, Antonio Bryant Sr.; his brother, Antonio
4 Bryant Jr.; his grandmother, Barbara Eiland; and his fiancee,
5 Rochelle Jumper; therefore, be it
 
6     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
8 mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of United
9 States Army Private First Class Ja'Mel Bryant; and be it
10 further
 
11     RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of United States Army
12 Private First Class Ja'Mel Bryant and his willingness to serve
13 his country, which led to him making the ultimate sacrifice;
14 and be it further
 
15     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16 presented to the family of United States Army Private First
17 Class Ja'Mel Bryant as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
