HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate Edna McFadden on
4 the occasion of her 100th birthday on December 25, 2008; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Edna McFadden was born on December 25, 1908 in
6 Rondo, Arkansas to the blessed union of Mary Thomas and Mose
7 Bown; she shared a memory-filled childhood with her sibling,
8 Jefferson; she and her family moved to Chicago when she was 13;
9 and
 
10     WHEREAS, Living in Chicago, Edna McFadden matured into a
11 young woman with an abundance of grace, charm, patience, and
12 wisdom, soon capturing the heart of the man who would become
13 her soul mate, Tommie McFadden; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Edna McFadden was employed in the laundry room at
15 the Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center for 37 years;
16 and
 
17     WHEREAS, Edna McFadden accepted Christ as her divine savior
18 and became a member of the Greater Metropolitan Church, where
19 she has been a vital and active member for many years; she
20 attended Sunday school and weekly Bible study as well; and

1     WHEREAS, Edna McFadden has never missed an opportunity to
2 vote and was overjoyed to have the chance to vote for and elect
3 the first black President of the United States; therefore, be
4 it
 
5     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
7 congratulate Edna McFadden on the occasion of her 100th
8 birthday and wish her many more happy and healthy years to
9 come; and be it further
 
10     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11 presented to Edna McFadden as a symbol of our esteem and
12 respect.
