2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of
Max L. Hunt of St. Charles, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on April 19, 2007; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Max L. Hunt was born on March 28, 1922 in Delaware | ||||||
6 | County, Indiana; his parents were Lloyd and Irene Hunt; he | ||||||
7 | married Doris Howey on June 19, 1948 in Chicago; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Max L. Hunt graduated from Parker City High School | ||||||
9 | in Parker City, Indiana where he lettered in basketball after | ||||||
10 | graduation; he attended Ball State University, where he | ||||||
11 | lettered in cross-country; in his third year of college he | ||||||
12 | entered the U.S. Army during World War II; during the war, he | ||||||
13 | fought in the Battle of the Bulge as an infantryman; he stayed | ||||||
14 | in England after the war and continued his education at the | ||||||
15 | University of Bristol for one year; upon returning from England | ||||||
16 | he finished his Bachelor Degree at Ball State University in | ||||||
17 | Education; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, After graduation, Max L. Hunt took a job as a | ||||||
19 | buyer for Marshal Field and Co.; after his marriage to Mrs. | ||||||
20 | Hunt, he took a job with Hafner Fabrics of New York, where he | ||||||
21 | was responsible for opening the company's Chicago branch at the | ||||||
22 | Merchandise Mart; after eight years, he began work for |

1 | Burlington Industries; in 1958 he joined Craftex Mills and | ||||||
2 | served as regional sales manager; later he started the Max Hunt | ||||||
3 | Company, which represented various textile mill industries, | ||||||
4 | including Craftex; in 1982 he retired from the textile industry | ||||||
5 | and began a new career in concrete manufacturing; he became | ||||||
6 | owner and president of Northfield Block Company in Northfield | ||||||
7 | in 1983 and served as Chairman of the Board until his death; | ||||||
8 | and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, His many memberships and services to his community | ||||||
10 | include past president of the Lincoln School PTO, the Community | ||||||
11 | Unit School District 303 Board of Education for 16 years, | ||||||
12 | member of St. Charles American Legion Post 342, Board of | ||||||
13 | Directors of the Duncan YMCA Chicago, member and former | ||||||
14 | Chairman, and Board of Trustees of Baker Memorial United | ||||||
15 | Methodist Church, member of A.F.& A.M. Lodge, and the Scottish | ||||||
16 | Rite and Shrine's Temple in Vermont; he was co-founder of | ||||||
17 | Tri-City Family Services, Chairman of the Steering Committee | ||||||
18 | for the Powder Keg Youth Center in St. Charles, Co-Chairman of | ||||||
19 | the St. Charles Arts and Music Festival, and co-founder of the | ||||||
20 | Literacy Volunteer of America Kane County; he was a life member | ||||||
21 | of the Republican Presidential Task Force; he served on the | ||||||
22 | Board of directors of the Hotel Baker Living Center, the Board | ||||||
23 | of directors of the Baker Community Center, the Board of | ||||||
24 | directors of the Delnor Community Hospital, as President of the | ||||||
25 | Dellora A. Norris Cultural Arts Center, Advisory Board of CASA, |

1 | and he was a member of the Board of Directors of Valley | ||||||
2 | Community Bank; he worked as a key member in obtaining the land | ||||||
3 | for the Norris Campus from the Norris Family, which includes | ||||||
4 | St. Charles East High School, Dellora A. Norris Cultural Arts | ||||||
5 | Center, John B. Norris Recreation Center, and the Lester J. | ||||||
6 | Norris Sports Complex; and he was honored for his efforts in | ||||||
7 | passing a critical referendum for Elgin Community College; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Max L. Hunt has received many distinguished honors | ||||||
9 | for his service; Fox Ridge Elementary School in St. Charles was | ||||||
10 | dedicated in his name; he received the Illinois Association Of | ||||||
11 | School Board Award of Merit, the Illinois State Board Of | ||||||
12 | Education Award for Education Excellence, the St. Charles | ||||||
13 | Education Association Award for Continuous Service to | ||||||
14 | Education, and the St. Charles Post 342 American Legion Award | ||||||
15 | for 15 years of service to Dist. 303; he received the | ||||||
16 | Charlemagne Award from the St. Charles Chamber of Commerce for | ||||||
17 | outstanding service to the community, the Silver Beaver Award | ||||||
18 | for distinguished service to youth - Two River Council Boy | ||||||
19 | Scouts of America, the Two Rivers Boy Scout Distinguished | ||||||
20 | Citizen Award in 1992, two Certificates for Merit in | ||||||
21 | recognition of service to the City of St. Charles, two Pride | ||||||
22 | Awards for the Fox Community Image Awards from the Chamber of | ||||||
23 | Commerce, and the William D. Barth Award for Human Services and | ||||||
24 | recognition for community service from Tri-City Health | ||||||
25 | Partnership for the Free Medical Clinic; and |

1 | WHEREAS, Max L. Hunt was preceded in death by his daughter, | ||||||
2 | Deborah J. "Debbie"; his parents, Lloyd and Irene Hunt; his | ||||||
3 | infant brother, Kenneth Hunt; and his sister, Elizabeth Miller; | ||||||
4 | and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Max L. Hunt is survived by his loving wife of 58 | ||||||
6 | years, Doris; his children, Steve (Polly) Hunt, Jeff (Cheri) | ||||||
7 | Hunt, Greg Hunt, David Hunt, and Jennifer (Keith) Kesner; his | ||||||
8 | son-in-law, Robert Beebe; his grandchildren, Justin (Christy) | ||||||
9 | Beebe, Sarah (Ben) Borgmeyer, Leslie Hunt, Lauren Hunt, Mary | ||||||
10 | Hunt, Oliver Hunt, Max Ian Hunt, Gavin Hunt, and Lee Kesner; | ||||||
11 | his six step-grandchildren, Sally, Carly, Liese and Nina Smith, | ||||||
12 | and Cloe and Avery Smith-Westphall; and his three | ||||||
13 | great-grandchildren, Cohen Beebe, Rylan Janene, and Kailee | ||||||
14 | Lynn Borgmeyer; therefore, be it | ||||||
15 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL | ||||||
16 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
17 | his family and friends, the passing of Max L. Hunt; and be it | ||||||
18 | further

19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
20 | presented to the family of Max L. Hunt as an expression of our | ||||||
21 | sympathy.
