SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Charlotte Helena Goss of Chicago, who
4 passed away on July 21, 2008; and
 
5     WHEREAS, She was born on September 13, 1943 in Brooklyn,
6 New York; her parents were Ella Marie and James Franklin
7 Williams, Jr.; she attended grammar and high school in Brooklyn
8 and the College of New Rochelle in New York with a full
9 academic scholarship; she received her Master's of Science from
10 Johns Hopkins University and her Ph.D. from the University of
11 Chicago; and
 
12     WHEREAS, She married William Goss on August 31, 1969 and
13 they moved to Chicago, making their home in Hyde Park; and
 
14     WHEREAS, She taught high school science classes and
15 childhood development courses at various colleges in the City
16 of Chicago; she was also an instructor at the University of
17 Chicago, Perdue University, the University of the District of
18 Columbia, and the City Colleges of Chicago; she worked as a
19 consultant for the City of Chicago and the head-start programs;
20 and
 
21     WHEREAS, She founded Heritage Enterprises in 1989;

1 Heritage Enterprises specialized in multi-media learning
2 materials for children; she also served as a resource for the
3 Henry Booth House; and
 
4     WHEREAS, She loved gardening, with her flowers in the front
5 of the house and a variety of vegetables in her backyard; she
6 loved to travel and made trips to various sites in the
7 Carribean, Europe, and Africa; she loved music of all
8 varieties; and she loved life and her family; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Charlotte Goss was preceded in death by her
10 grandfather, Fitz Roy Daniel; her grandmother, Dolores Daniel;
11 her father, James Williams, Jr.; her uncles, James Jacob,
12 Franklin Peterson, Festus Daniel, and William Daniel; and her
13 best friend, Maude Rawlins; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Charlotte Goss is survived by her mother, Ella
15 Williams; her brother, George Williams; her husband, William
16 Goss; her children, Maisha Goss-Johns (Micardo Johns), Zuri
17 Goss, Salah Malaika Goss, and Rasanah Goss; her granddaughter,
18 Mariah; her "sister", Erma Drumgoole; and a close circle of
19 family and friends; therefore, be it
 
20     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
21 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
22 her family and friends, the passing of Charlotte Helena Goss;

2     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3 presented to the family of Charlotte Helena Goss as a symbol of
4 our sincere sympathy.
