SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of longtime State Representative Wyvetter
4 Younge of East St. Louis, who passed away on December 26, 2008;
5 and
 
6     WHEREAS, Wyvetter Younge was one of the longest-serving
7 current members of the Illinois House of Representatives; she
8 was born and raised in East St. Louis; she took office in 1975,
9 worked tirelessly on behalf of her constituents, and believed
10 strongly in her community; and
 
11     WHEREAS, She received her Bachelor of Science degree from
12 Hampton Institute; her Juris Doctor from the St. Louis
13 University School of Law; and her L.L.M. from the Washington
14 University School of Law; and
 
15     WHEREAS, She was a staunch believer in education and
16 economic development, fighting hard to keep the State community
17 college in East St. Louis; she fought to make certain that the
18 Casino Queen would be in East St. Louis; and she fought for any
19 cause that would help her district; and
 
20     WHEREAS, She represented House District 114, which
21 includes some of the poorest communities in the metro-east and

1 some of the wealthiest; the district covers Alorton, Brooklyn,
2 Centreville, East St. Louis, Scott Air Force Base, Shiloh,
3 Washington Park, and parts of Belleville, Cahokia, Fairview
4 Heights, Mascoutah, Millstadt, Swansea, Venice, and O'Fallon
5 south of State Street; and
 
6     WHEREAS, She served on the Committee on
7 Appropriations-Elementary and Secondary Education; Gaming;
8 Housing and Urban Development; Least Cost Power Procurement;
9 and Renewable Energy; and
 
10     WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard
11 Younge; her daughter, Ruth; and her sister, Cecile Edwards; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Representative Wyvetter Younge is survived by her
13 sons, Richard Younge Jr., Torque Younge, and Roland Younge; her
14 daughter, Margaret Hewitt; her sister, Ruth Hill; her brothers,
15 Roscoe Hoover and Herbert Hoover; and many friends and
16 constituents; therefore, be it
 
17     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
18 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
19 her friends, family, and constituents, the passing of a truly
20 caring individual, State Representative Wyvetter Younge; and
21 be it further

1     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2 presented to the family of State Representative Wyvetter Younge
3 as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
