SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
20 ILCS 505/6.10 new

    Amends the Children and Family Services Act. Provides that the Department of Children and Family Services shall provide a voucher in the amount of $50 to low-income families to be applied to the purchase of a child restraint system that meets the requirements of the Child Passenger Protection Act. Defines "low-income family" to mean a family with household income equal to or less than 150% of the federal poverty level. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning State government.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Children and Family Services Act is amended
5 by adding Section 6.10 as follows:
 
6     (20 ILCS 505/6.10 new)
7     Sec. 6.10. Voucher for child restraint system.
8     (a) In this Section, "low-income family" means a family
9 with household income equal to or less than 150% of the federal
10 poverty level, according to the poverty guidelines updated
11 periodically in the Federal Register by the U.S. Department of
12 Health and Human Services under authority of 42 U.S.C. 9902(2).
13     (b) The Department shall provide a voucher in the amount of
14 $50 to low-income families to be applied to the purchase of a
15 child restraint system that meets the requirements of the Child
16 Passenger Protection Act. A family may apply for a voucher in
17 the form and manner prescribed by the Department.
 
18     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
19 becoming law.
