2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Elizabeth | ||||||
4 | "Bess" Eichelberger of Plainfield, who passed away on February | ||||||
5 | 21, 2009; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Elizabeth Eichelberger served on the Plainfield | ||||||
7 | School District Board for almost 26 years, including several | ||||||
8 | years as president: November 1981 to November 1982, November | ||||||
9 | 1986 to November 1987, and November 1989 to November 1991; in | ||||||
10 | August of 2008, Plainfield School District opened a new | ||||||
11 | elementary school, naming it after Elizabeth Eichelberger; she | ||||||
12 | began her time with the Plainfield School District Board on | ||||||
13 | April 13, 1976 and retired on November 12, 2001; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, She also served 11 years as the director of the | ||||||
15 | Illinois Association of School Boards; while on the school | ||||||
16 | board, she volunteered as secretary at Indian Trail Middle | ||||||
17 | School and as receptionist at the district office, in addition | ||||||
18 | to her other volunteer work; she was school board president | ||||||
19 | when the 1990 tornado struck the area, destroying Plainfield | ||||||
20 | High School, Grand Prairie Elementary School and St. Mary's | ||||||
21 | Immaculate Church where she served as president of the parish | ||||||
22 | council; she went to Washington, D.C., after the tornado to | ||||||
23 | drum up support for Plainfield; and

1 | WHEREAS, After retiring from the school board in 2001, she | ||||||
2 | stayed loyal to the Plainfield School District, serving as a | ||||||
3 | school board ambassador; she attended many school board | ||||||
4 | meetings to report on what she had seen occur at Plainfield | ||||||
5 | Village Board meetings; she also attended many community | ||||||
6 | functions, including graduations, Veterans Day celebrations, | ||||||
7 | homecomings, and numerous ribbon-cutting ceremonies for the | ||||||
8 | district's new schools; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, She was a bookkeeper for 33 years, and received | ||||||
10 | numerous awards, including the United Way of Will County's | ||||||
11 | Roger Osman Award for distinguished volunteer service in 2005; | ||||||
12 | the Joliet Junior College Distinguished Service Award in 1991; | ||||||
13 | and the State Board of Education's Those Who Excel Award in | ||||||
14 | 1992; and | ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, She served on the YMCA advisory board, the | ||||||
16 | Plainfield Rotary, the United Way of Will County, the Hall of | ||||||
17 | Fame committee at Plainfield High School, Will County Project | ||||||
18 | Pride, as a greeter at St. Mary's, the district's homecoming | ||||||
19 | committee, and Plainfield Central High School's athletic and | ||||||
20 | band booster clubs; State Representative Tom Cross appointed | ||||||
21 | her to the State panel for Ticket for a Cure; and she helped | ||||||
22 | form an advisory board and recruited community members to join | ||||||
23 | and raise money for the C.W. Avery Family YMCA in Plainfield; |

2 | WHEREAS, Her husband, Edward, died in 1976; and | ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Elizabeth Eichelberger was the mother of Linda | ||||||
4 | (Danny) Hulbert and Ed Eichelberger; and the grandmother of | ||||||
5 | Christina Hulbert; she is also survived by her caregivers, Ron | ||||||
6 | and Kathy Kazmar; therefore, be it
| ||||||
7 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
8 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
9 | mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of | ||||||
10 | Elizabeth "Bess" Eichelberger; and be it further
| ||||||
11 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
12 | presented to the family of Elizabeth "Bess" Eichelberger as a | ||||||
13 | symbol of our sincere sympathy.
