HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of United
4 States Army Private First Class Devin Michel of Colorado
5 Springs, Colorado, formerly of Stockton, who was killed in the
6 line of duty while serving in the Zhari District, Kandahar
7 Province, Afghanistan, on October 24, 2009; and
 
8     WHEREAS, PFC Devin Michel was born on August 3, 1990; he
9 was the son of Terry and Rebecca (Broshous) Michel; he married
10 Anika Entmeier on October 3, 2008; and
 
11     WHEREAS, PFC Devin Michel was a 2008 graduate of Stockton
12 High School, where he played football, basketball, baseball,
13 and was a member of the band; and
 
14     WHEREAS, After graduation, PFC Devin Michel enlisted in the
15 United States Army as an infantryman; he began basic training
16 on June 14, 2008, at Fort Benning, Georgia; after basic
17 training, he was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 12th Infantry
18 Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team of the 4th Infantry Division
19 based out of Fort Carson, Colorado; on May 30, 2009, he was
20 deployed on his first tour of duty in Afghanistan; and
 
21     WHEREAS, PFC Devin Michel enjoyed playing sports, spending

1 time with his dog, Jade, and playing drums; and
 
2     WHEREAS, PFC Devin Michel is survived by his wife, Anika;
3 his parents, Terry and Rebecca Michel; his sisters, Holly and
4 Catey Michel; his grandparents, Elmer and Lois Miller and Rod
5 and Kathryn Broshous; and his great-grandmother, Winnifred
6 (Harold Gallagher) Luke; and
 
7     WHEREAS, PFC Devin Michel's patriotism and courage will be
8 remembered fondly by his loving family, his fellow soldiers,
9 and the citizens of our grateful nation; therefore, be it
 
10     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
12 we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of
13 United States Army Private First Class Devin Michel; and be it
14 further
 
15     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16 presented to the family of PFC Devin Michel as an expression of
17 our sympathy.
