HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Sister M. Joan
4Sorge of St. Agnes Grade School in Springfield for winning the
52010 Distinguished Principal Award from the National Catholic
6Education Association and for being named one of the 2010 Class
7of National Distinguished Principals from the National
8Association of Elementary School Principals; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Sister M. Joan Sorge earned her bachelor's degree
10from St. Ambrose College in Iowa and her master's degree from
11the University of Illinois; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Sister M. Joan Sorge has made the spiritual and
13faith development of all members of her school community her
14highest goal and greatest accomplishment for more than 25 years
15as a Catholic school leader; during her tenure at St. Agnes
16Grade School, she has been instrumental in creating the
17school's preschool program, hands-on science laboratory, and
18automated library system; she was also instrumental in
19upgrading the school's instructional technology and in the
20evaluation and cycling of the school's textbooks and other
21learning materials; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Sister M. Joan Sorge was chosen among 12 national

1finalists to receive the National Catholic Education
2Association's Distinguished Principal Award at a ceremony on
3April 6, 2010 at the National Catholic Educational Association
4Annual Convention in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in recognition of
5her many accomplishments as principal at St. Agnes Grade
6School; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The National Association of Elementary School
8Principals' National Distinguished Principals program honors
9outstanding elementary and middle level administrators who
10assure that America's children acquire a sound foundation for
11lifelong learning and achievement; Sister M. Joan Sorge was
12picked to be one of only 5 principals representing private and
13parochial schools internationally to belong to the 2010 class
14of National Distinguished Principals; she will be honored for
15this designation on October 15, 2010 in Washington, D.C., while
16attending a 2-day event honoring the principals'
17accomplishments; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Sister M. Joan Sorge serves as a model of hard
19work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of
20Illinois; therefore, be it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
22NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
23congratulate Sister M. Joan Sorge on her accomplishments and

1wish her continued success and happiness in the future; and be
2it further
 
3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to Sister M. Joan Sorge as a symbol of our esteem and
5respect.
