HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Daisy Brooks of
4North Chicago, for her many achievements in the community; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Daisy M. Brooks received the 2010 Citizens Medal,
6the second-highest civilian honor in the country, from
7President Obama, on August 3, 2010; she is the founder of
8Daisy's Resource and Developmental Center in North Chicago,
9which delivers a variety of educational and social services to
10people who need extra help; and
 
11    WHEREAS, The White House said that Dr. Brooks received the
12Citizens Medal for offering guidance and support to young women
13across Chicago; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Dr. Brooks is a native of Natchez, Mississippi; in
151995 she received a General Contractor's License; she received
16an Honorary Doctorate of Literature in 1998, a Doctorate of
17Laws in 1995, a Doctorate of Humane Letters in 1995, a
18Doctorate of Education in 1994, a Master of Science in
19Community Service in 1986, and a Bachelor of Science in 1984;
20and
 
21    WHEREAS, She is a Past and Present member of the American

1Technology Society; a Past Matron of the Emblem Chapter 140
2O.E.S.; a Past treasurer of the Golden Circle #59; a Shawall
3Court Daughter of Isis Court #4; and a Past President of Rotary
4Anns Harbor Lites Chapter of the Links Inc; and
 
5    WHEREAS, In addition, she is a Life Member of the NAACP; a
6member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Lambda No Omega
7Chapter; a member of Mt. Sinai Institutional Baptist Church; a
8Board Member of Day Care Crisis Council State of Illinois; the
9Vice President of the Great Lakes Chamber of Commerce, Lake
10County Area; a member of the Vocational Center Advisory
11Committee; and a member of the International Organization of
12Women Executives; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Dr. Brooks has received many honors and accolades,
14including: the Lake County Most Influential African American
15award; the We Do Care Organization award; the YWCA Leadership
16award for Services in Business; the Lake County Urban League
17Black Business Person of the Year; the Illinois Girl Scout
18Council Women of Achievement award; the Christian Fellowship
19Church Humanitarian award; the Top Ladies of Distinction
20Humanitarian award from The Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand
21Lodge for Free and Accepted Masons; the State of Illinois
22Citizens of the Year Award; the Paul Harris Fellow Humanitarian
23Award sponsored by Rotary International; and the OMVI Life
24Model Award; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
3congratulate Dr. Daisy Brooks for her many achievements and
4wish her continued success in the future; and be it further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to Dr. Daisy Brooks as a symbol of our respect and
7esteem.
