1 | AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 68

2 | AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 68 as follows: | ||||||
3 | on page 1, line 7, by replacing " Coverage for hearing aids for | ||||||
4 | all " with " Audiological services. "; and | ||||||
5 | on page 1, by deleting line 8; and | ||||||
6 | on page 2, by replacing line 1 through line 7 with the | ||||||
7 | following: | ||||||
8 | " (b) A group or individual policy of accident and health | ||||||
9 | insurance or managed care plan amended, delivered, issued, or | ||||||
10 | renewed after the effective date of this amendatory Act of the | ||||||
11 | 96th General Assembly must provide coverage for audiological | ||||||
12 | services and hearing aids for children up to 18 years of age or | ||||||
13 | 23 years of age if enrolled in a post-secondary educational | ||||||
14 | program. This coverage shall only apply to hearing aids that | ||||||
15 | are prescribed, fitted, and dispensed by a licensed |

1 | audiologist. A policy or plan may limit the hearing aid benefit | ||||||
2 | coverage period for each hearing-impaired ear to 36 months. The | ||||||
3 | coverage shall provide for a benefit of $2,000 per | ||||||
4 | hearing-impaired ear per coverage period and guarantors shall | ||||||
5 | be contractually allowed to pay the difference between the | ||||||
6 | benefit amount and the audiologist's usual and customary charge | ||||||
7 | for the device. The benefit may be used to cover hearing aids, | ||||||
8 | assistive-listening devices, hearing-aid accessories, | ||||||
9 | hearing-aid repairs, earmolds, and remote controls that are | ||||||
10 | prescribed and dispensed by a licensed audiologist. A policy or | ||||||
11 | plan may provide for up to 4 additional ear molds per year at | ||||||
12 | $50 each for children up to 5 years of age. ".
