SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/3-689 new

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides for issuance of Women Veteran license plates, at an additional initial charge of $15 with eligibility requirements to be determined by the Secretary of State. Provides that the $15 additional initial charge shall be deposited into the Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding
5 Section 3-689 as follows:
 
6     (625 ILCS 5/3-689 new)
7     Sec. 3-689. Women Veteran license plates.
8     (a) In addition to any other special license plate, the
9 Secretary, upon receipt of all applicable fees and applications
10 made in the form prescribed by the Secretary of State, may
11 issue Women Veteran license plates to residents of Illinois who
12 meet eligibility requirements prescribed by the Secretary of
13 State. The special Women Veteran plate issued under this
14 Section shall be affixed only to passenger vehicles of the
15 first division, motorcycles, and motor vehicles of the second
16 division weighing not more than 8,000 pounds. Plates issued
17 under this Section shall expire according to the staggered
18 multi-year procedure established by Section 3-414.1 of this
19 Code.
20     (b) The design, color, and format of the plates shall be
21 wholly within the discretion of the Secretary of State. The
22 Secretary may, in his or her discretion, allow the plates to be
23 issued as vanity or personalized plates in accordance with

1 Section 3-405.1 of this Code. The Secretary shall prescribe the
2 eligibility requirements and, in his or her discretion, shall
3 approve and prescribe stickers or decals as provided under
4 Section 3-412.
5     (c) An applicant shall be charged a $15 fee for original
6 issuance in addition to the applicable registration fee. This
7 additional fee shall be deposited into the Secretary of State
8 Special License Plate Fund.
 
9     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
10 becoming law.
