SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Jewel Mary Elizabeth French, who passed
4 away on June 13, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Jewel French was born on November 19, 1954 in
6 Chicago; her parents were the late Montana and Gertrude Harper;
7 she married Vernie French Jr. on April 19, 1980; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Jewel French attended Betsy Ross Elementary
9 School, William W. Carter Middle School, and Simeon High
10 School; she then earned her associate's degree from Truman
11 College; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Jewel French was employed in the medical field for
13 over 20 years; in 2007, she began her own business, "Sacred
14 Service Document Preparation", which assists the elderly with
15 the preparation of various documents; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Jewel French accepted Christ at an early age; as a
17 child, she attended Gorham Methodist Church, where she sang in
18 the church choir; as her spiritual journey progressed, she was
19 led to the teachings of the Catholic faith; in 1992, she joined
20 the St. Sabina Church, where she was involved in numerous
21 ministries, including the Worship & Praise and Sacristan

1 Ministries; and
 
2     WHEREAS, Jewel French enjoyed singing, roller skating,
3 sewing, and watching "CSI: Miami"; she also enjoyed performing
4 volunteer work with the elderly; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Jewel French is survived by her daughters, Tasha
6 (Reginald) and Janine; her grandchildren, Aaron and Rihanna;
7 her sister, Lois Moses; her brothers, Warner D. Harper, Elston
8 H. Harper, and Michael Harper; her aunt, Mary E. Smith; her
9 nieces, Karen, Warnetta, Lana, and Tameka; her nephews,
10 Michael, Termain, Mileak, and Michael Lee; her great-nieces,
11 Brittany, Ashley, Grace, Mia, and Mya; her great-nephews,
12 Mikal, Mileak Jr., Elijah, Lashawn, and Liam; her best friend,
13 Judy Simms; and her many other relatives, friends, and St.
14 Sabina family; therefore, be it
 
15     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
16 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
17 his family and friends, the passing of Jewel Mary Elizabeth
18 French; and be it further
 
19     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20 presented to the family of Jewel French as an expression of our
21 sympathy.
