SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, Autism Spectrum Disorder is a complex
3 neurobiological disorder that affects the social, learning,
4 and behavioral skills of those affected by it; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Autism impacts one out of every 110 children in
6 the United States and is the fastest growing developmental
7 disability; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Autism can affect anyone, regardless of race,
9 ethnicity, or other factors; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Because a cure for autism has not been found,
11 individuals with autism can be assisted in reaching their
12 greatest potential through accurate early diagnosis,
13 appropriate education, and intervention; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Families of children with autism bear an enormous
15 financial burden of providing needing services and healthcare;
16 and
 
17     WHEREAS, Public information and awareness efforts are
18 important in accelerating early identification efforts and the
19 expansion of early intervention programs; and

1     WHEREAS, The United Nations has announced "World Autism
2 Day", which will be held on April 2, 2010 in order to call
3 attention to this worldwide disability; therefore, be it
 
4     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
5 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize April 2,
6 2010 and April 2 of each year thereafter, as "World Autism Day"
7 in the State of Illinois; and be it further
 
8     RESOLVED, That every individual with autism is a valued and
9 important member of our society and should be acknowledged and
10 recognized on this important day; and be it further
11
12     RESOLVED, That we recognize the parents and relatives of
13 those individuals with autism for their sacrifice and
14 dedication in providing for the needs of individuals with
15 autism.
