SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Gorden G. Gass of Granite City, who
4passed away on September 17, 2010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gorden Gass was born on February 11, 1929, in
6Virden; he married Mary Jane Brugger on January 24, 1959, in
7Woodriver; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Gorden Gass proudly served his country as a member
9of the United States Army's 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th
10Infantry Division during the Korean War; he received a Purple
11Heart for injuries sustained on July 9, 1952, in the Chor'wan
12Valley while assaulting an enemy machine gun position and
13recovered from those wounds at the Walter Reed Medical Center
14in Washington D.C.; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Gorden Gass worked as a farmer in the Granite City
16area since the 1950s; he served as a board member of the
17Madison Service Company; he was a member of the Farm Bureau for
18more than 60 years; he served on the Madison County Ditch and
19Drainage Committee as a Commissioner; he also served on the
20University of Illinois Extension Council; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Gorden Gass was a member of American Legion Post

1199 of Edwardsville and the Sons of the American Revolution;
2and
 
3    WHEREAS, Gorden Gass held a pilot license for more than 20
4years and enjoyed his days of flying; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Gorden Gass was preceded in death by his parents,
6Clyde R. Gass and Lillian K., nee Smith, Gass; his brothers,
7Clyde Gass, Robert Gass, Kenneth Gass, William Gass, and
8Richard Gass; his sisters, Doris McNaughton, Helen Felts, and
9Ruth Wilson; and his son-in-law, Rick Harvey; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Gorden Gass is survived by his wife, Mary Jane,
11nee Brugger, Gass; his son, Jeff Gass; his daughters, Marilyn
12Harvey and Linda (Patrick) Burgess; his sister, Esther Quinn;
13and his many extended family members and friends; therefore, be
14it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
17his family and friends, the passing of Gorden G. Gass; and be
18it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Gorden Gass as an expression of our
21sympathy.
