SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Hinsdale Deputy Fire Chief Mark P.
4Johnson, who died in the line of duty on September 20, 2010;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Prior to working with the Hinsdale Fire
7Department, he worked for Soukup's Hardware (now, Fuller's
8Hardware) throughout high school and college; he later worked
9at the Adventist Hinsdale Hospital as the safety inspector; and
 
10    WHEREAS, He lived in LaGrange Park and held an associate's
11degree in fire science from the College of DuPage, a bachelor's
12degree in fire science from Southern Illinois University, and a
13bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Illinois
14in Chicago; and
 
15    WHEREAS, He joined the Hinsdale Fire Department in February
16of 1986; he was promoted to lieutenant in October of 2001, to
17captain in May of 2003, and to deputy chief in May of 2008; and
 
18    WHEREAS, He voluntarily enrolled in the Good Samaritan
19Paramedic program in 1988, becoming one of the first
20paramedic/firefighters in the department; and

1    WHEREAS, He served as the department's training officer and
2paramedic coordinator for several years; and
 
3    WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; Philip
4and Carol Johnson; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mark Johnson is survived by his wife, Cheryl (nee,
6Schroeder); his son, Matthew; his siblings, Eric (Kyle)
7Bachman-Johnson, Hope (James) Glass, Joyce (Don) Ross, and Leif
8(Liz) Johnson; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mary and
9Leo Schroeder; his sisters-in-law, Carrie Chavez and Sue
10Schroeder; and his nieces and nephews, Jessica, Addie, Bart,
11Jamie, Logan, Jenny, Jake, Ben, Avery, Mindi, Julian, Nathan,
12Aidan, Beth, Emily, Lauren, Jackie, Abbey, Finn, Nick, Amanda,
13Maddi, Tori, and Emma; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
16his family, friends, fellow firefighters, and a grateful
17community, the passing of Hinsdale Deputy Fire Chief Mark P.
18Johnson; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Mark Johnson as a symbol of our
21sincere sympathy.
