2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of
Bruno Bartoszek of Aurora, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on November 1, 2010; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Bruno Bartoszek was born on February 27, 1922, in | ||||||
6 | Toporow, Poland; his parents were the late Simon and Zofia | ||||||
7 | Bartoszek; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, In 1942, Bruno Bartoszek joined the Polish Army | ||||||
9 | after he and his family were released from Siberian work camps | ||||||
10 | in the Soviet Union; he served faithfully as a member of the | ||||||
11 | Polish 2nd Corps, 3rd Carpathian Division under British | ||||||
12 | command, seeing action in Libya, Italy, Iran, Iraq, Palestine, | ||||||
13 | Egypt, and Lebanon; he fought in the Battle of Monte Cassino | ||||||
14 | when the Polish Army defeated the German forces in May of 1944; | ||||||
15 | he was awarded several medals for his service during World War | ||||||
16 | II, including the Virtuti Militari medal, the Polish equivalent | ||||||
17 | to the Medal of Honor, the Army Medal (Polish), the 1939-45 | ||||||
18 | Star, the Italy Star, the Defense Medal, and the Cross of Monte | ||||||
19 | Cassino Medal (Polish); after the war, he worked in the British | ||||||
20 | War Office in London, England before coming to the United | ||||||
21 | States in 1951; and

22 | WHEREAS, Bruno Bartoszek was employed with Aurora Pump, the |

| |||||||
1 | Burlington Northern Railroad, and subsequently retired as an | ||||||
2 | agent for Prudential Insurance Company; and | ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Bruno Bartoszek was a member of several local | ||||||
4 | clubs and historical societies in Aurora and the surrounding | ||||||
5 | communities, including the Boy Scouts of America, the Catholic | ||||||
6 | Committee of the Rockford Diocese, the Waubonsee Community | ||||||
7 | College Literacy Project, the Grand Army of the Republic | ||||||
8 | Association, and the historical societies of Sugar Grove, | ||||||
9 | Batavia, Shabbona, Kendall County, Oswego, Franklin Grove, and | ||||||
10 | Grundy County; he was named Grand Marshal for Aurora's Fourth | ||||||
11 | of July parade in 1996; he was also a member of Our Lady of Good | ||||||
12 | Counsel Church; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Bruno Bartoszek is preceded in death by his | ||||||
14 | sisters, Anna, Teofilia, and Mary, and his brothers, Frank and | ||||||
15 | John; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Bruno Bartoszek is survived by his daughter, | ||||||
17 | Annette (Rick) Lawrence, his son, Jack (Donita) Bartoszek; his | ||||||
18 | grandchildren, Sarah and Stephanie Lawrence and Allen | ||||||
19 | Bartoszek; his wife, Wanda; his sister, Angela Buczkiewicz; his | ||||||
20 | half-brothers, Casmir and Stanley; and his numerous nieces and | ||||||
21 | nephews; therefore, be it

1 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
2 | his family and friends, the passing of Bruno Bartoszek; and be | ||||||
3 | it further
| ||||||
4 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
5 | presented to the family of Bruno Bartoszek as an expression of | ||||||
6 | our sympathy.
