SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of State Representative Richard P. Myers of
4Colchester, who passed away on December 1, 2010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He was born to John and Martha Myers on December
627, 1947 in Macomb; he married Christine Sims on August 9, 1975
7in North Henderson; he graduated from Colchester High School in
81966 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Agronomy from Western
9Illinois University in 1973; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Representative Myers farmed his family farm for 29
11years and served 6 years in the United States Army Reserves; he
12was an active member and elder of the Scotland Trinity
13Presbyterian Church; and
 
14    WHEREAS, During his farming career, Representative Myers
15was active in the Farm Bureau organization, serving in various
16capacities at the local, State, and national levels; he served
1712 years as a member of the board of directors of the Illinois
18Farm Bureau; during that time he represented the Illinois Farm
19Bureau on the board of directors of the Interstate Producers
20Livestock Association, the U.S. Meat Export Federation, and
21numerous other agricultural organizations; and

1    WHEREAS, Representative Myers served several years as
2minority spokesperson of the Appropriations-Higher Education
3Committee and was a strong advocate for increased funding for
4the State's public colleges and universities, as well as for
5the State's community college system; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Representative Myers served on the Agriculture
7and Conservation, Higher Education, State Government
8Administration, Elections and Campaign Reform, and Renewable
9Energy Committees; he served as a member of the Passenger Rail
10Caucus, a group of legislators advocating for continued and
11expanded Amtrak service throughout the State; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Representative Myers was co-chair of the
13Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability, a
14bi-partisan legislative commission of members from both
15chambers; their responsibilities include forecasting State
16revenue projections, oversight of employee insurance programs,
17and conducting hearings on the proposed closure of State
18facilities; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Beyond the State of Illinois, Representative
20Myers served as co-chair of the Agriculture and Natural
21Resources Committee of the Midwest Legislative Conference of
22the Council of State Governments; and

1    WHEREAS, Representative Myers was preceded in death by his
2son, Nicholas; his father, John; and his brother, Wendell, who
3died in infancy; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Representative Myers is survived by his wife,
5Chris; his daughter, Alison; his mother, Martha; his brothers,
6Donald (Sue) Myers and Charles (Ann) Myers; and numerous nieces
7and nephews; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Representative Myers will be remembered as a
9thoughtful and hardworking legislator who always put his family
10and constituents first; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
13his family, friends, and constituents, the passing of State
14Representative Richard Myers; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of State Representative Richard Myers
17as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
