SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
55 ILCS 5/4-10001  from Ch. 34, par. 4-10001
55 ILCS 5/4-10002 new

    Amends the Counties Code. Provides that on and after the effective date of the amendatory Act and until November 30, 2011, the county board of Rock Island may reduce the salaries or return to a per diem method of compensation for all county board members and the Chairman of the board. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning local government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Counties Code is amended by changing Section
54-10001 as follows:
 
6    (55 ILCS 5/4-10001)  (from Ch. 34, par. 4-10001)
7    Sec. 4-10001. County board members. County board members
8elected pursuant to Division 2-3 shall receive such
9compensation as is fixed by the county board in accordance with
10the method of compensation selected by the county board. Except
11as provided in Section 4-10002, Such compensation shall be set
12before the general election at which county board members are
13elected. The chairman of the county board shall receive such
14additional compensation as determined by the county board in
15reapportioning the county.
16    County board members and the chairman of the county board
17are also entitled to travel and expense allowances as
18determined by the county board.

20    Section 10. The Counties Code is amended by adding Section
214-10002 as follows:

2    Sec. 4-10002. County Board members; change compensation.
3Notwithstanding any provision of this Act to the contrary, on
4and after the effective date of this amendatory Act of the 97th
5General Assembly and until November 30, 2011, the county board
6of Rock Island County may select to change the manner of
7compensation of all county board members and the Chairman of
8the board for the purpose of reducing compensation or returning
9to a per diem method of compensation.
 
10    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
11becoming law.
