SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/3-699 new

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides for the issuance of Soldier's Medal Plates license plates to persons who have earned the Soldier's Medal from the U.S. Armed Forces. Provides that the applicant shall pay an additional fee of $15 for original issuance of the plates, to be deposited into the Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund.

1    AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding
5Section 3-699 as follows:
 
6    (625 ILCS 5/3-699 new)
7    Sec. 3-699. Soldier's Medal license plates.
8    (a) In addition to any other special license plate, the
9Secretary, upon receipt of all applicable fees and applications
10made in the form prescribed by the Secretary of State, may
11issue Soldier's Medal license plates to residents of Illinois
12who have earned the Soldier's Medal from the United States
13Armed Forces. The special plates issued under this Section
14shall be affixed only to passenger vehicles of the first
15division, motorcycles, and motor vehicles of the second
16division weighing not more than 8,000 pounds. Plates issued
17under this Section shall expire according to the staggered
18multi-year procedure established by Section 3-414.1 of this
19Code.
20    (b) The design, color, and format of the plates shall be
21wholly within the discretion of the Secretary of State. The
22Secretary may, in his or her discretion, allow the plates to be
23issued as vanity plates or personalized in accordance with

1Section 3-405.1 of this Code. The plates are not required to
2designate "Land of Lincoln", as prescribed in subsection (b) of
3Section 3-412 of this Code. The Secretary shall, in his or her
4discretion, approve and prescribe stickers or decals as
5provided under Section 3-412.
6    (c) An applicant shall be charged a $15 fee for original
7issuance in addition to the applicable registration fee. This
8additional fee shall be deposited into the Secretary of State
9Special License Plate Fund.
