HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of United
4States Army Private First Class Andrew N. Meari of Plainfield,
5who gave his life defending America's freedom on November 1,
62010, in the Zhari district of Kandahar, Afghanistan; and
 
7    WHEREAS, PFC Andrew Meari was born on September 14, 1989,
8in Chicago; he was the son of Denise Meehan of Plainfield and
9Mahmoud Meari of Grafton, Wisconsin; and
 
10    WHEREAS, PFC Andrew Meari attended Drauden Point Middle
11School and Plainfield South High School; he subsequently earned
12his diploma from Port Washington High School in Wisconsin,
13where he graduated early, before joining the U.S. Army in 2008;
14and
 
15    WHEREAS, PFC Andrew Meari served with Company A, 1st
16Battalion, 502nd Infantry, 2nd Brigade Combat Team of the 101st
17Airborne Division out of Fort Campbell, Kentucky; and
 
18    WHEREAS, PFC Andrew Meari was awarded the National Defense
19Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War
20on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the
21Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Combat Infantry Badge in

1recognition of his service; and
 
2    WHEREAS, United States and Illinois flags throughout the
3State flew at half-staff from November 8-10, 2010, as a symbol
4of mourning and to honor the sacrifice of PFC Andrew Meari; and
 
5    WHEREAS, PFC Andrew Meari will be remembered for his love
6of country, generous spirit, patriotism, and love for his
7family and friends; and
 
8    WHEREAS, PFC Andrew Meari dedicated his life to defending
9America's freedom and made the ultimate sacrifice in service to
10his nation; he will be dearly missed by his mother, Denise
11(Gerald) Meehan; his father, Mahmoud (Aisha) Meari; his
12brothers, Ethan and Andrew; his sister, Jenna; his grandmother,
13Vivienne Williams; his uncle, Todd (Stacie) Williams; his
14fellow soldiers; and the citizens of a grateful nation;
15therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
17NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
18we mourn, along with his family, friends, and the members of a
19grateful nation, the passing of United States Army Private
20First Class Andrew N. Meari; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
