HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The annual University of Illinois-Chicago Gender
3and Women's Studies Program's Women's History Month Reception
4honors Civic Engagement, Community Service, and Community
5Organizing (CECSCO) Award recipients; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Tania Unzueta is the co-founder of the Immigrant
7Youth Justice League; and
 
8    WHEREAS, She is a graduate student in Latin American and
9Latino Studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago; and
 
10    WHEREAS, She is a nationally recognized leader and
11organizer in the undocumented youth movement for immigrant
12rights; until May of 2010 she was the Assistant General Manager
13of 90.5 FM WRTE Radio Arte Chicago, a bilingual public radio
14station; and
 
15    WHEREAS, She currently freelances as an immigration
16reporter for Radio Bilingue News Network; she was a Media
17Strategist for "The DREAM is Coming" project and participated
18in advocating for the DREAM Act in Arizona and Washington D.C.;
19and
 
20    WHEREAS, She continues to teach journalism and

1broadcasting classes and mentors young radio producers; she was
2born in Mexico City and emigrated to the United States with her
3parents when she was 10 years old; she holds a B.A. in
4Sociology and Gender Studies from the University of
5Illinois-Chicago; and
 
6    WHEREAS, She will receive the Civic Engagement, Community
7Service, and Community Organizing (CECSCO) Award during the
8annual University of Illinois-Chicago Gender and Women's
9Studies Program's Women's History Month Reception on March 4,
102011; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
12NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13we congratulate Tania Unzueta on receiving this award and wish
14her continued success for years to come; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to Tania Unzueta as a symbol of our respect and
17esteem.
