HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Autism Spectrum Disorder can affect all
3individuals regardless of racial, ethnic, economic, and social
4groups; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Autism Spectrum Disorder is more common than
6pediatric cancer, diabetes, and AIDS combined; and
 
7    WHEREAS, It is diagnosed in 1 in 110 individuals in the
8United States based on the 2007 CDC statistics; and
 
9    WHEREAS, The cause of Autism Spectrum Disorder is still
10unknown but research strongly suggests that it is caused by
11certain factors that affect brain development; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Autism Spectrum Disorder has increased tenfold in
13the last decade and now occurs in some form in 1 in 90 boys in
14the United States; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Autism, which is four times more common in boys
16than girls, usually appears during the first three years of
17life; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Early diagnosis, research, training, education,
19and therapies are vital to reducing the effects of Autism; and

1    WHEREAS, Current research suspects that there is not a
2single cause that will ultimately be discovered but rather a
3cluster of factors which include genetics, pregnancy/birth
4complications, viral infections, metabolic disorders,
5congenital anomaly syndrome (birth defects), and environmental
6toxins; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
9we designate April 14, 2011 as Autism Lobby Day in the State of
10Illinois for the purpose of urging both government and its
11citizenry to become aware and educated on the subject of Autism
12Spectrum Disorders.
