2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are pleased to congratulate our friend, Edward |
4 | | T. Duffy III, on his long career as a staple in the Illinois |
5 | | State Capitol; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Duffy was born on October 23, 1945; his |
7 | | parents are Edward and Dorothy Duffy; he has two siblings, Bill |
8 | | and Patty; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Duffy began his career as a Chicago police |
10 | | officer; he served as an investigator for the intelligence |
11 | | division, specializing in organized crime; he subsequently |
12 | | served as the Chief of the Compliance Office and as the Chief |
13 | | Investigator of the Illinois Dangerous Drugs Commission; he |
14 | | also served as the division's budget administrator; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Duffy was appointed as the Director of the |
16 | | Illinois Department of Drug and Alcohol Abuse (DASA); he was |
17 | | also appointed to serve as Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor |
18 | | Jim Thompson and served as Director of the Illinois Department |
19 | | of Public Aid; and

20 | | WHEREAS, In 1988, Mr. Duffy left state government and |
21 | | became Vice-President of the Village of Arlington Park; he |
|

1 | | became President of Arlington Park soon after; in 1993, he |
2 | | joined the National Jockey Club and became the organization's |
3 | | CEO; he subsequently worked at the Sportsman's Park Racetrack |
4 | | and the Chicago Motor Speedway, remaining in that position |
5 | | until 2001; and |
6 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Duffy formed his own consulting firm, Edward |
7 | | T. Duffy Associates, and was appointed Chairman of the Illinois |
8 | | Community College Board; and |
9 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Duffy served as a Trustee for the Village of |
10 | | Arlington Heights; and |
11 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Duffy is one of the most beloved and trusted |
12 | | lobbyists in the Illinois State Capitol and has became known |
13 | | for his chief negotiating skills on tough legislative matters; |
14 | | and |
15 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Duffy is known in the Capitol for his |
16 | | knowledge on gaming issues and higher education, among others; |
17 | | he has lobbied for the Illinois Board of Higher Education, the |
18 | | Illinois Community College Board, the Illinois Student |
19 | | Assistance Commission, Hawthorne Racetrack, Casino Queen, and |
20 | | the Illinois Council of Community College Presidents, among |
21 | | many other clients; and |

1 | | WHEREAS, In 2009, Mr. Duffy joined forces in lobbying with |
2 | | Liz Brown-Reeves, with whom he formed a life-long friendship |
3 | | and partnership; and |
4 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Duffy has continued to make his family the |
5 | | cornerstone of his life; he married his loving wife, Nancy, in |
6 | | 1968; he has five daughters, Colleen Ann (husband, Tim), Meghan |
7 | | Ann (husband, Eric), Kelli Ann, Erin Ann (husband, Brent), and |
8 | | Cara Ann, and six grandchildren, Katelyn Isabella Moulton, |
9 | | Madison Paige Moulton, Braden Duffy Carlson, Bryce Duffy |
10 | | Carlson, Ansley Carlson, and Everleigh Ann Lahman; and |
11 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Duffy will undoubtedly still be part of the |
12 | | legislative process in Springfield and continue to serve as a |
13 | | source of wisdom and guidance on key legislative issues; |
14 | | therefore, be it

15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
16 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
17 | | we congratulate Edward T. Duffy III on a successful career in |
18 | | the Illinois State Capitol and his many contributions to the |
19 | | State of Illinois; and be it further

20 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
21 | | presented to Edward T. Duffy III as a symbol of his |
22 | | contributions to the State of Illinois.
