HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate James Durkan on his
4retirement as President/CEO of the Community Memorial
5Foundation in Hinsdale; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Jim Durkan is retiring as President/CEO of
7Community Memorial Foundation (CMF) effective December 31,
82011; he is a native of Swinford County Mayo, Ireland; County
9Mayo has a long honored tradition in Irish history; St. Patrick
10himself is claimed to have spent 40 days and 40 nights on
11Croagh Patrick praying for the people of Ireland; County Mayo
12also produced national treasures such as Michael Davitt and
13James Daley, who instituted social change during England's
14occupancy; James Durkan is another in the long list of Mayo men
15who bring honor and distinction for their sense of good will
16and justice; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Jim Durkan has been with Community Memorial
18Foundation since its beginning in August 1995, after serving as
19the President of La Grange Memorial Hospital Foundation for 5
20years and working in leadership roles at hospitals on the east
21coast; under his 16 years of leadership, the Foundation has
22awarded more than $50 million in grants to organizations
23serving people in the western suburbs; and

1    WHEREAS, During his tenure, he guided the launch of the
2Foundation's Responsive Grants Program, Building
3Organizational Effectiveness Initiative, and Healthcare Access
4Program, as well as past grant programs such as the Youth
5Initiative, Early Childhood Initiative, and Aging Well
6Program; and
 
7    WHEREAS, He has worked tirelessly to further the
8Foundation's mission and develop a spirit of grant-making that
9is built on making a difference in the community; His
10unwavering dedication and thoughtful leadership has enabled
11Community Memorial Foundation to deepen its impact in improving
12the health and well being of those who live and work in the
13western suburbs; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Over the years he has also served the community as
15Board Chair of the West Suburban Chamber of Commerce and
16Industry and of the Hinsdale Center for the Arts, and served as
17a board member of the Donors Forum; currently he serves on many
18boards and advisory committees including the Siragusa Family
19Foundation, TASC, the DuPage Health Coalition, the Illinois
20Attorney General's Charitable Advisory Council, and the
21Illinois Transitional Care Advisory Board; therefore, be it

1NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
2we congratulate James Durkan on his retirement and thank him
3for his years of service; and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to James Durkan as a symbol of our respect and
6esteem.
