HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Melissa McCarthy
4for winning the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy
5Series as Molly Flynn in the CBS sitcom Mike & Molly; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Melissa was raised on a farm in Plainfield, in a
7"big, Irish-Catholic family"; she graduated from Joliet
8Catholic Academy (Formerly St. Francis Academy) in Joliet; her
9former classmates say she was always "funny and witty" in the
10classroom and would add one-liners to any conversation; her
11career started with stand-up comedy and includes film,
12television, and theater; and
 
13    WHEREAS, At the beginning of her career in 1997, she
14appeared in an episode of the NBC comedy series Jenny; later,
15she had supporting roles in the films The Kid, Charlie's
16Angels, Go, The Third Wheel, and The Life of David Gale; she
17also did voice work in 3 episodes of Kim Possible, where she
18played DNAmy; she may be most well known for her role of Sookie
19St. James, Lorelai Gilmore's best friend on The Gilmore Girls;
20and
 
21    WHEREAS, In the midst of her career, Melissa married her
22longtime boyfriend, Ben Falcone, who is also an actor; they

1have 2 daughters, Vivian and Georgette; while pregnant with
2Vivian, her pregnancy was written into the Gilmore Girls
3script; and
 
4    WHEREAS, In her most recent work she has played character
5roles in The Back-Up Plan, Life as We Know It, and the
6successful and critically lauded film, Bridesmaids; since
72010, she has played a leading role as Molly Flynn in Mike and
8Molly, for which she won her Emmy; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Residents in her home town say that Melissa has
10not forgotten where she came from and has not changed at all;
11her Emmy acceptance speech mentioned her home town of
12Plainfield; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
15we congratulate Melissa McCarthy for receiving the Emmy Award
16for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to Melissa McCarthy as a symbol of our respect and
20esteem.
