HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, More than 35 million people are living with
3Alzheimer's and other dementia related diseases worldwide,
4with 5.4 million in the United States and 210,000 in the State
5of Illinois; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Someone develops Alzheimer's disease every 69
7seconds; it is now the sixth leading cause of death in the
8United States; and
 
9    WHEREAS, By 2050 16 million Americans will have Alzheimer's
10and someone will have developed the disease every 33 seconds,
11unless something is done to combat Alzheimer's; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Currently, 14.9 million family members and
13friends provide 17 billion hours of unpaid care to those with
14Alzheimer's and other dementia related illnesses, care that is
15valued at $202.6 billion; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Costs to Medicaid are 9 times higher for a person
17with Alzheimer's than for a person without Alzheimer's in the
18same age group; and
 
19    WHEREAS, The Illinois Alzheimer Legislators Alliance, a
20bipartisan alliance of State policy makers, is helping to make

1this devastating disease a top priority in daily policy making;
2and
 
3    WHEREAS, The Illinois Alzheimer Legislators Alliance,
4working closely with the Alzheimer's Association and others,
5are raising awareness as to the impact Alzheimer's disease and
6related dementias have on Illinois individuals and families,
7communities, and the public health system; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
10we designate the month of November as Alzheimer's Disease
11Awareness Month in the State of Illinois; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That citizens of the State of Illinois
13acknowledge the increased need for State involvement in raising
14awareness for Alzheimer's disease support, funding, and
15research as the disease impacts individuals and families across
16the State.
