HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of retired
4United States Army Colonel Charles J. Lucas of Grayslake, who
5passed away on November 6, 2011; and
 
6    WHEREAS, He was born on May 21, 1923 in Mt. Carmel to
7George J. Lucas and Myrtle Marie (Lovell); and
 
8    WHEREAS, He served in the United States Army during World
9War II and was captured and became a prisoner of war at the
10Battle of the Bulge; he later received the Purple Heart medal
11for his service; he retired after serving for 35 years in the
12Army and Army Reserve with the rank of Colonel; and
 
13    WHEREAS, He began a 41-year career in civil service in 1946
14at Fort Sheridan as a Claims Adjudicator in the Separation
15Center Finance Office; he later moved up to Section Chief and
16to Post Signal Supply Officer, with later promotions to Deputy
17Post Signal Officer and Signal Officer; and
 
18    WHEREAS, In 1962, he was selected as the Deputy Director of
19Maintenance and was later promoted to Director of
20Maintenance/Installation Maintenance Officer GM-13; he
21culminated his career as the Executive Director/Chairman GM-14

1of the Fort Sheridan Centennial Commission and Centennial U.S.
2Constitution (1985-1988); and
 
3    WHEREAS, He was an athletic coach, musician, band director,
4business entrepreneur, a long tenured member of the Grayslake
5Village Trustees and Lake County Illinois Planning Commission,
6a member of the Knights of Columbus and Catholic Charities
7Board, American Legion Commander, a member of the Veterans of
8Foreign Wars and Lake County Veterans Assistance Commission,
9and he was Vice President of the U.S. Military National Reserve
10Officers Association; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Charles J. Lucas Sr. is survived by his wife, Mary
12Jane, his children, George J. Lucas II, Marilyn J. Lucas, and
13Charles J. Lucas Jr.; his 5 grandchildren; and his 2
14great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of
18Charles Lucas; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Charles Lucas as a symbol of our
21sincere sympathy.
