2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Antonio Ramos | ||||||
4 | on the occasion of his retirement; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Dr. Antonio Ramos was born on November 9, 1925, in | ||||||
6 | the small rural town of Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila, Mexico; as the | ||||||
7 | middle child of 6 children in a very humble family, he always | ||||||
8 | worked to excel in his school studies; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Dr. Antonio Ramos graduated from the University of | ||||||
10 | Mexico City as a medical doctor in surgery in 1950; he entered | ||||||
11 | the United States the following year with only $20 in his | ||||||
12 | pocket; because his medical degree was not recognized in the | ||||||
13 | United States, one of his first jobs was working for the | ||||||
14 | Nabisco Company, where he cleaned cooking sheets; he also | ||||||
15 | worked in the fields in Wisconsin picking tomatoes before he | ||||||
16 | was approved for an internship at Holy Cross Hospital from 1951 | ||||||
17 | to 1952; after his internship, he undertook his residency in | ||||||
18 | general surgery at Grace Hospital in Welsh, West Virginia from | ||||||
19 | 1952 to 1958; and

20 | WHEREAS, After returning to Chicago, Dr. Antonio Ramos | ||||||
21 | performed another residency at Hines Veterans Hospital, which | ||||||
22 | was then part of Loyola University, from 1961 to 1966; while at |

1 | Hines, he received high standards for general surgery; during | ||||||
2 | this time, he received his master's degree from the University | ||||||
3 | of Illinois after being promoted to the program by his | ||||||
4 | professors; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Before he finished his residency, Dr. Antonio | ||||||
6 | Ramos started his own private practice on Milwaukee Avenue in | ||||||
7 | Chicago; he then moved his practice to Ashland Avenue in the | ||||||
8 | Lakeview neighborhood, where he spent 20 years developing his | ||||||
9 | practice; during this time, he worked for the Chicago | ||||||
10 | Blackhawks as a team doctor and an active surgeon for the team; | ||||||
11 | and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Following his dream to help the residents of the | ||||||
13 | Pilsen community, Dr. Antonio Ramos opened his clinic on 19th | ||||||
14 | and Blue Island in Chicago in August of 1987, where he has | ||||||
15 | worked with his wife, Dr. Ana Laura Ramos, ever since; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Dr. Antonio Ramos has been an active member of | ||||||
17 | many community service organizations throughout his | ||||||
18 | professional life; and | ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Dr. Antonio Ramos is fondly known throughout the | ||||||
20 | Pilsen community as "el doctor del barrio" (the doctor of the | ||||||
21 | community); therefore, be it

1 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
2 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
3 | we congratulate Dr. Antonio Ramos on the occasion of his | ||||||
4 | retirement and wish him many happy and healthy retirement | ||||||
5 | years; and be it further

6 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
7 | presented to Dr. Antonio Ramos as a symbol of our esteem and | ||||||
8 | respect.
