HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate the Harris Theater
4for Music and Dance in Chicago as they are honored to present
5the first ever Chicago and Midwest appearances of the Paris
6Opera Ballet, considered one of the world's greatest ballet
7companies; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The June 26 through July 1, 2012 engagement
9launches the Paris Opera Ballet's 2012 North American Tour,
10with their first American performances in more than a decade;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, The full 154-member company will perform 2 diverse
13programs, Giselle, and a program of mixed repertoire to include
14Suite en blanc by Serge Lifar, Roland Petit's L'Arlesienne, and
15Le Bolero by Maurice Bejart, accompanied by the Grant Park
16Orchestra in a first-ever collaboration with the Harris
17Theater; and
 
18    WHEREAS, This engagement is a momentous occasion for the
19City of Chicago, as it secures the City's stature as one of the
20nation's foremost destinations for dance and underscores the
21Harris Theater's role as the City's premier venue to experience
22groundbreaking dance; and

1    WHEREAS, Opened in 2003, the Harris Theater's mission is to
2partner and collaborate with Chicago's emerging and mid-sized
3performing arts organizations to help them build the resources
4necessary to achieve artistic growth and long-term
5organizational sustainability; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Harris Theater for Music and Dance was the
7first multi-use performing arts venue to be built in the
8Chicago downtown area since 1929; today, the Theater continues
9to host the most diverse offerings of any venue in Chicago;
10therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
12NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13we congratulate the Harris Theater for Music and Dance as they
14present the Paris Opera Ballet; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to Michael Tiknis, President and Managing Director of
17the Harris Theater, as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
