HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Lieutenant/EMT
4Robert Beuse and Firefighter/Paramedic Tommy Thomson of the
5Franklin Park Fire Department on the occasion of being awarded
6the Medal of Valor Award by the Office of the Illinois State
7Fire Marshal; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The Medal of Valor award is given by the Illinois
9State Fire Marshal to a firefighter for an act of heroism or
10bravery that clearly demonstrated courage and dedication in the
11face of danger while in the performance of duty; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Robert Beuse followed in his father's footsteps
13and became a firefighter on February 14, 1983, at the age of
1422; he has 3 children, Robert Beuse III, Melissa Beuse, and
15Brandon Beuse, and one granddaughter, Katlyn; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Tommy Thomson is a lifelong resident of Franklin
17Park; he graduated from East Leyden High School in 1985; from
18August of 1986 to May of 1995, he served as a combat medic with
19the United States Army and was honorably discharged at the rank
20of sergeant; he has served in the fire service for a total of
2116 years and has been a member of the Franklin Park Fire
22Department for 12 years; he has also been a certified paramedic

1for 8 years; his father was a member of the Franklin Park Fire
2Department for 39 years; he and his wife, Anita, have 3
3children; and
 
4    WHEREAS, On April 27, 2011, Robert Beuse and Tommy Thomson
5were driving northbound on Rose Street in Franklin Park, when
6they noticed what appeared to be smoke coming from behind a
712-unit multifamily building at 3826 N. Rose Street; even
8though the building was outside of the Franklin Park city
9limits, they continued in to investigate; upon arrival, they
10found heavy smoke and fire coming from a garden apartment
11window; after reporting the fire and donning their gear, they
12began alerting and evacuating the residents of the building;
13while the evacuation was in progress, a tenant stated that they
14heard someone yelling for help; Lt. Beuse and FFPM Thomson
15forced entry into the apartment and rescued a resident who was
16wrapped in a blanket and lying on the living room floor; after
17carrying the victim from the garden apartment to the outside,
18the victim was then transported to the local hospital, where he
19was later released; all the residents were also accounted for
20once the fire was extinguished; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Robert Beuse and Tommy Thomson will receive their
22Medals of Valor during the 19th Annual Illinois Fallen
23Firefighter Memorial and Firefighter Medal of Honor Awards
24Ceremony on May 10, 2012 in Springfield; and

1    WHEREAS, Robert Beuse and Tommy Thomson serve as models of
2hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the
3State of Illinois; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6we congratulate Lieutenant/EMT Robert Beuse and
7Firefighter/Paramedic Tommy Thomson on the occasion of being
8awarded the Medal of Valor and wish them continued success and
9happiness in the future; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
11presented to Robert Beuse and Tommy Thomson as a symbol of our
12esteem and respect.
