HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Roger Bergia,
4Peoria Heights Public School District #325 Superintendent, on
5his retirement; and
 
6    WHEREAS, He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from
7Eureka College, where he played football and participated in
8track; he received his Master of Arts degree from Bradley
9University; he took postgraduate classes at Bradley
10University, Western Illinois University, and the University of
11Illinois; while in college, he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha
12fraternity and Phi Delta Kappa fraternity; and
 
13    WHEREAS, He has served 52 years in the Village of Peoria
14Heights; he attended school in Peoria Heights, and after
15college, returned to teach and coach for 5 years, and became a
16school principal in 1965; and
 
17    WHEREAS, He was later promoted to Assistant
18Superintendent; in 1974, he was promoted to District
19Superintendent and has served in that capacity for 38 years;
20and
 
21    WHEREAS, In 1981, he was named the School Administrator of

1the Year by the Illinois State Board of Education; in 1992, he
2received the Exemplary Practices Award in Early Childhood
3Education from the Illinois State Board of Education; in 1993,
4he received the Business-Education Partnership Award from the
5Illinois State Board of Education; in 1996, he received the
6Exemplary Partnership Award in Construction Industry Prep
7Work-Based Learning from the Illinois State Board of Education;
8and, in 1981, he received the Outstanding Citizenship Award
9from the Peoria Heights Chamber of Commerce; and
 
10    WHEREAS, He was named to Who's Who in American Education in
111992; Who's Who in the Midwest in 1984; Who's Who in America in
121999; and Who's Who in the World in 1997; and
 
13    WHEREAS, His hard work and dedication to his career have
14made him respected in Peoria Heights and the surrounding area;
15and
 
16    WHEREAS, Superintendent Bergia will retire at the end of
17the 2012 school year, leaving behind a legacy of wisdom and
18patience remembered fondly by his many students; he will enjoy
19his retirement along with his wife, Val; his daughters, Lori,
20Amy, and Beth; and his grandchildren, Chelsea, Collin, Hanna,
21and Jake; therefore, be it
 
22    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE

1NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
2we congratulate Roger Bergia on his retirement and wish him the
3best in his future endeavors; and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to Roger Bergia as a symbol of our respect and
6esteem.
