HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Jeff Chudwin on the
4occasion of his retirement as the Chief of Police for the
5Village of Olympia Fields on July 17, 2012, after 38 years of
6dedicated service in law enforcement; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Jeff Chudwin earned his juris doctor degree from
8DePaul University Law School in 1977; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Jeff Chudwin began his career in law enforcement
10in 1974, serving the Village of Olympia Fields in both a
11part-time and then full-time capacity; in November of 2000, he
12was appointed by Village President Linzey Jones to the position
13of Acting Chief; in February of 2001, he was promoted to the
14position of Chief; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Prior to his career with the Village of Olympia
16Fields, Jeff Chudwin served as an Assistant State's Attorney
17for Will and Cook Counties; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Jeff Chudwin has provided training to police
19officers on issues of emergency preparedness, police use of
20force, tactical firearms use, and officer survival throughout
21the State and at national conferences since 1978; he has

1assisted officers involved in deadly force incidents and speaks
2on preparing for deadly force incidents and their aftermath; he
3also writes for law enforcement publications on the issues of
4police use of force, firearms training, SWAT, and patrol
5functions; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Jeff Chudwin is a founding member of the Illinois
7Tactical Officers Association and has served as its president
8for the past 16 years; he has served as the Police Chief's
9representative and co-chairman of the Illinois Law Enforcement
10Alarm System for Lake, Cook, and DuPage Counties since 2002; he
11serves as co-chairman of the Terrorism/Disaster Preparedness
12Committees of the South Suburban Police Chiefs Association, the
13South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association, and is a member
14of the Illinois Chiefs of Police Association Terrorism
15Committee; he is co-chairman of the Illinois Law Enforcement
16Alarm System (ILEAS) Region 4/Cook, DuPage, and Lake Counties
17and serves as the committee chair for the ILEAS Weapons of Mass
18Destruction/Special Response Teams; he serves as co-chairman
19of the Terrorism/Emergency Preparedness committees of the
20South Suburban Chiefs of Police and the South Suburban Mayors
21and Managers Associations; in 2005, he was deployed as a member
22of the ILEAS Task Force in response to the Hurricane Katrina
23EMAC request from the State of Louisiana; and
 
24    WHEREAS, Jeff Chudwin was named Law Officer Magazine

1Trainer of the Year for 2009 in recognition of his work; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Jeff Chudwin serves as a model of hard work,
3integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of
4Illinois; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
7we congratulate Jeff Chudwin on the occasion of his retirement
8and wish him many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it
9further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to Jeff Chudwin as a symbol of our esteem and
12respect.
