HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives recognize that gang violence is a growing
4global epidemic that affects people of every age, race,
5culture, gender and financial background; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The State of Illinois and the Rusty Keeble
7Foundation are working to help achieve a gang-free America
8through the GANGFREE Illinois campaign; GANGFREE Illinois
9provides assistance and support for evidence-based prevention
10and intervention programs, public forums for community
11discussions, professional development training, effective
12enforcement, and intelligence sharing in order to combat gang
13violence in Illinois; and
 
14    WHEREAS, During the month of November, communities and
15criminal justice professionals of all disciplines throughout
16the State, in conjunction with various State agencies and the
17Rusty Keeble Foundation's GANGFREE Project, will take a stand
18against gangs and the threat they pose to public safety; and
 
19    WHEREAS, This year's GANGFREE Month will promote the
20benefits of prevention, intervention, and enforcement within
21our communities, schools, jails, and prisons; this observance
22will educate citizens on gang violence and how it can be

1eradicated through a joint effort of a committed community; and
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of this body call upon young people
3and all citizens in the State of Illinois and elsewhere to
4recognize and unite against the proliferation of gangs and gang
5violence within our communities; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
8we designate November of 2012 as GANGFREE Illinois Month and
9call upon the citizens of this State to take a stand against
10the proliferation of gangs and gang violence by becoming active
11in their communities; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That we pledge our support to those law
13enforcement officials, volunteers, teachers, health care
14professionals, and others who work to help our children avoid
15gangs and gang violence and urge the citizens of this State to
16support these individuals as well; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the Rusty Keeble Foundation as a symbol of our
19respect and esteem.
