HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Bette Reed on her
4retirement from Conerstone Services, Inc.; and
 
5    WHEREAS, On January 5, 1981, Bette J. Reed began working
6for Will County Sheltered Workshop, an organization that is
7today known as Cornerstone Services, Inc.; and
 
8    WHEREAS, In her first 7 years at the agency, Bette Reed
9served as Work Adjustment Training Supervisor, Skills Training
10Coordinator, Director of Special Projects, and Director of
11Residential Services; and
 
12    WHEREAS, On May 31, 1988, Bette Reed was named Director of
13Development, a position she held for the following 18 years;
14and
 
15    WHEREAS, Bette Reed's dedication to the people who receive
16services at Cornerstone was further acknowledged when she was
17promoted to Vice-President/Chief Development Officer in 2006;
18and
 
19    WHEREAS During the 31 years she has been employed by
20Cornerstone, Bette Reed has played a pivotal part in the

1expansion of services for people with disabilities in Will and
2Kankakee Counties, including the development of
3community-based group homes, employment services, day program
4community services, residential services for children, and
5permanent supportive housing for people with mental health
6needs and their family members; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Bette Reed has devoted countless hours to
8fundraising events for Conerstone, coordinating stage
9entertainment for many years during the Festival of Trees, and
10recruiting volunteers for the Celebrity Champagne Luncheon;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, Bette Reed's skills as a grant writer are widely
13admired among her peers, as is her leadership roles in
14important community organizations including the Will County
15Continuum of Care and the Southwest Suburban Philanthropic
16Network; and
 
17    WHEREAS, The revenue generated for Conerstone through the
18many grants written by Bette Reed are vast and have improved
19the lives of numerous people; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Bette Reed will begin enjoying a well-deserved
21retirement from Cornerstone beginning in January of 2013;
22therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3we honor Bette J. Reed for her 31 years of dedication to the
4mission of Cornerstone Services: to provide progressive and
5comprehensive services to people with disabilities and to
6promote choice, dignity, and the opportunity to live and work
7in the community, and we congratulate her on her retirement;
8and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to Bette Reed as an expression of our esteem and
11respect.
