HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Dr. Atha
4Hunt, who passed away on December 21, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Atha Hunt was born on February 27, 1942; his
6parents were Oleva and Robert Hunt; he married Dearia Selph in
71975; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Dr. Atha Hunt graduated from Dunbar Vocational
9High School and earned his bachelor's degree in economics from
10SIU-Carbondale and his master's degree in economics from
11Roosevelt University; after a short stint as a Chicago Public
12Schools teacher, he earned his MBA from the University of
13Chicago; while working at the Center for Inner City Studies, he
14earned his Juris Doctor from DePaul University; and
 
15    WHEREAS, In 1976, Dr. Atha Hunt joined Chicago State
16University's College of Business; he served as an associate
17professor at the university for 36 years; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Dr. Atha Hunt enjoyed reading, listening to music,
19playing the saxophone, traveling, and attending CSU basketball
20games; and

1    WHEREAS, Dr. Atha Hunt was preceded in death by his mother;
2his brothers, Charles Hunt, Roosevelt Hunt, and Freddie Hill;
3his nieces, Felicia Payne, Linda Hunt, and Renetta Davis; and
4his nephews, Charles Hunt Jr., Doin Hill, and Tylis
5Rainey-Hill; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Dr. Atha Hunt is survived by his wife, Dearia; his
7sons, Atha II, Anton, and Aston; his mother-in-law, Idell
8Sayles; his brothers, Willie Hunt (Carol), Samuel Hill
9(Marnita), and Sylvester Hill (Jittun); his sisters, Leonia
10Davis, Dorothy Hill, Claudia Jones (Robert), Carolyn Dunn
11(R'Lando), and Shirley Hill (Sergio); his sisters-in-law,
12Stella, Jacqueline, Doris, Sheila, Esther, Marnita, and
13Juanita Hill; his brothers-in-law, Larry and Robert; his 38
14great-nieces and great-nephews; his 13 great-great-nieces and
15great-great-nephews; and his many cousins and friends;
16therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
18NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
19we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Dr.
20Atha Hunt; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Dr. Atha Hunt as an expression of
23our sympathy.
