HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to honor Montgomery Village President
4Marilyn Michelini for her decades of dedicated service to her
5community and her many achievements as a community leader as
6she prepares for retirement from public office; and
 
7    WHEREAS President Michelini's first professional
8government position began in 1982 when she agreed to complete
9the remaining 2 1/2-year term of a retiring board member on the
10Kane County Board; in 1987, she was first elected to the board
11of trustees for the Village of Montgomery; and
 
12    WHEREAS, President Michelini played an active role as a
13trustee and was the only woman on the board; she earned a
14reputation for always "doing her homework", thereby gaining the
15respect of fellow board members; and
 
16    WHEREAS, In April 2001, President Michelini was elected
17Village President; and
 
18    WHEREAS, President Michelini has had to draw from her many
19years of professional experience to manage the great changes
20taking place in this rapidly growing Village; and

1    WHEREAS, President Michelini's leadership was instrumental
2in advancing numerous community achievements and improvements
3during her tenure, including:
4    (1) Initiation of a senior program featuring monthly
5luncheons, presentations, and activities;
6    (2) Acquisition and donation of land to school districts
7for construction of 2 new elementary schools in Montgomery;
8    (3) Completion of the Village's Transportation and Access
9Plan;
10    (4) Approval of numerous annexation agreements covering
11residential, commercial, and industrial developments to ensure
12smart, managed growth;
13    (5) Implementation of a free battery recycling program for
14residents;
15    (6) Successful completion by the Historic Preservation
16Committee of the restoration of Settler's Cottage; the
17Settler's Cottage Museum is now open to the public;
18    (7) Creation of a Beautification Committee that
19coordinates flower plantings on the bridge, banners in the
20downtown, and other beautification efforts; and
 
21    WHEREAS, During President Michelini's tenure, the Village
22of Montgomery received many professional accolades, including:
23Excellence in Financial Reporting, Excellence in Planning
24Award, Award for Strategic Planning, Perfect Fluoride
25Compliance, Stormwater Management Award, Naturalized

1Stormwater Management, Outstanding Use of Native Plants; and
 
2    WHEREAS, President Michelini strove to make Village
3government more accessible and responsive, establishing social
4media sites that allow more interaction with residents and
5businesses, conducting monthly "Coffee with the Mayor"
6meetings, and hosting annual events, including: a tree lighting
7ceremony, an open house, a 5K River Run/3K River Walk, and
8Montgomery Fest; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Inter-agency cooperation requires active
10participation on numerous councils and committees, therefore
11President Michelini served as a founding member and past
12president of the Metro West Council of Government, represented
13Kane and Kendall Counties on the Chicago Metropolitan Agency
14for Planning, and also serves on the Kendall County Mayors and
15Managers Association, the National Association of Regional
16Councils, the Kane County Storm Water Management Commission,
17the Fox Valley United Way Board (Community Impact Committee),
18and the Kane County Impact Fee Committee (alternate);
19therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
21NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
22we honor Montgomery Village President Marilyn Michelini for her
23service and achievements on behalf of the residents of the

1Village of Montgomery, and we congratulate her and wish her a
2long and happy retirement; and be it further
 
3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to President Michelini as an expression of our esteem
5and respect.
