| | Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides for the issuance of Multiple Sclerosis Assistance license plates. Provides that in addition to the appropriate registration fees, an applicant for the special plate shall be charged a fee of $25 at original issuance and $12 at renewal. Provides that $10 of the additional original issuance fee and the renewal fee shall be deposited into the Multiple Sclerosis Assistance Fund, a special fund in the State treasury. Provides that $15 of the original issuance fee and $2 of the renewal fee shall be deposited into the Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund. Effective immediately.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding |
5 | | Section 3-696 as follows: |

7 | | Sec. 3-696. Multiple Sclerosis Assistance license plate. |
8 | | (a) The Secretary, upon receipt of all applicable fees and |
9 | | applications made in the form prescribed by the Secretary, may |
10 | | issue special registration plates designated as Multiple |
11 | | Sclerosis Assistance license plates. The special plates issued |
12 | | under this Section shall be affixed only to passenger vehicles |
13 | | of the first division, motor vehicles of the second division |
14 | | weighing not more than 8,000 pounds, recreational vehicles as |
15 | | defined by Section 1-169 of this Code, and boat trailers with a |
16 | | gross trailer weight rating of 10,000 or less pounds. Plates |
17 | | issued under this Section shall expire according to the |
18 | | multi-year procedure established by Section 3-414.1 of this |
19 | | Code. |
20 | | (b) The design and color of the special plates shall be |
21 | | wholly within the discretion of the Secretary. The Secretary, |
22 | | in his or her discretion, may allow the plates to be issued as |
23 | | vanity or personalized plates under Section 3-255.1 of this |
