SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/3-664

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that the Secretary of State shall issue Gold Star license plates to all siblings of a person who has lost his or her life while serving in the Armed Forces (instead of to only one surviving sibling in the absence of a surviving parent).

1    AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by changing
5Section 3-664 as follows:
 
6    (625 ILCS 5/3-664)
7    Sec. 3-664. Gold Star license plates. Upon proper
8application, the Secretary of State shall issue registration
9plates designated as Gold Star license plates to any Illinois
10resident who is the surviving widow, widower, sibling, or
11parent of a person who served in the Armed Forces of the United
12States and lost his or her life while in service whether in
13peacetime or war. The surviving widow or widower and each
14surviving parent and sibling , or in the absence of a surviving
15parent, only one surviving sibling shall be issued one set of
16registration plates. Registration plates issued under this
17Section shall be for first division vehicles and second
18division vehicles of 8,000 pounds or less. The Secretary may,
19in his or her discretion, allow the plates to be issued as
20vanity or personalized plates in accordance with Section
213-405.1 of this Code. An applicant shall be charged only the
22appropriate registration fee.
