1 | | AN ACT concerning State government.
|
2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The Children and Family Services Act is amended |
5 | | by changing Section 8 as follows:
|
6 | | (20 ILCS 505/8) (from Ch. 23, par. 5008)

7 | | Sec. 8. Scholarships and fee waivers. Each year the |
8 | | Department may
select from among the youth children under care, |
9 | | youth who aged out of care at age 18 or older, or youth or |
10 | | children formerly under care
who have been adopted or are in a |
11 | | guardianship placement the subsidized guardianship program , a
|
12 | | maximum of 48 students (at least 4 of whom shall be
children of |
13 | | veterans) who have earned a high school diploma from a public |
14 | | school district or a recognized nonpublic school or a |
15 | | certificate of general education development (GED), or who have |
16 | | met the State criteria for high school graduation; the youth |
17 | | completed 4 years in an accredited high
school; the children |
18 | | selected shall be eligible for scholarships
and fee waivers |
19 | | which will entitle them to 4 consecutive years of community

20 | | college, university, or college education. Selection shall be |
21 | | made on the
basis of scholastic record, aptitude, and general |
22 | | interest in higher
education. In accordance with this Act, |
23 | | tuition scholarships and fee waivers
shall be available to such |
