SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Illinois Route 148 is a State highway that runs
3from Pulley's Mill in Southern Illinois north to Mount Vernon;
4and
 
5    WHEREAS, United States Army Specialist Travis Picantine of
6Sesser passed away while in the service of this country on
7November 10, 2009; and
 
8    WHEREAS, He enlisted in the United States Army in 2007; he
9completed his Basic Training and AIT at Fort Benning, Georgia;
10he was stationed at Fort Drum, New York with the 10th Mountain
11Division; and
 
12    WHEREAS, He was an Infantryman with the 1-32 Charlie
13Company; he returned to Fort Drum after his deployment to
14Afghanistan; and
 
15    WHEREAS, He received many medals and awards during his
16military service, including the Army Commendation Medal, 2 Army
17Achievement Medals with Oak Leaf, the National Defense Medal,
18the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Star, the War on Terrorism
19Service Medal, the United Nations Medal, the Basic Training
20Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Medal, the Army
21Presidential Unit Ribbon with Bronze Oak Leaf, the Army

1Valorous Unit Citation, the Army Meritorious Unit Citation, the
2Expert Marksman Badge, the Combat Infantry Badge, and an
3Infantry Cord; and
 
4    WHEREAS, United States Army Specialist Travis Picantine is
5remembered by his mother, Tammie Goessman Severs; his sister,
6Megan Bowlin; his niece, Lily Marie Bowlin; his nephew, Travis
7Ryan Bowlin, named in his honor after his passing; and his
8grandparents, Harold Dean and Margaret Goessman; and
 
9    WHEREAS, This fallen soldier deserves to be remembered by
10the State of Illinois for his service to this country;
11therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
14CONCURRING HEREIN, that the portion of Illinois Route 148 from
15Christopher and through the Village of Sesser be renamed the
16Army Specialist Travis Picantine Memorial Highway; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
19is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
20State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
21giving notice of the name of the Army Specialist Travis
22Picantine Memorial Highway; and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to the Illinois Department of Transportation and the
3family of Army Specialist Travis Picantine.
