SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Social workers are highly skilled and motivated
3professionals who dedicate their careers to helping people make
4positive changes in their lives; and
 
5    WHEREAS, There are more than 640,000 trained social work
6professionals in the United States and more than 12,000 in
7Illinois who work tirelessly in private and public social
8services agencies, hospitals, hospices, schools, universities,
9legislatures, private practices, corporations, and the
10military; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Social workers improve the fabric of society by
12advocating for accessibility, equality, fairness, and care for
13individuals and families who are the most vulnerable in
14society; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Social workers help people explore new
16opportunities in the face of serious life changes and
17challenges; and
 
18    WHEREAS, The social work profession was established more
19than 100 years ago to help Americans overcome poverty, illness,
20addiction, abuse, discrimination, and other adversities to
21reach their full potential; and

1    WHEREAS, The social work profession works to change systems
2and customs that limit the ability of vulnerable individuals
3and groups to lead fulfilling and productive lives; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Schools of social work train socially-conscious
5people to make a real difference in the world through service
6and leadership; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Social workers strengthen communities, expand
8options, and work to facilitate humane changes in policies and
9legislation that improve the lives of everyone; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Social workers begin each day believing they will
11give an individual, a family, or a community renewed hope in
12the future; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we designate the month
15of March as Social Work Month in the State of Illinois; and be
16it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the National Association of Social
19Workers-Illinois Chapter with our sincere appreciation for
20their efforts.
