SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Robert Gillis of Bloomington, who passed
4away on March 22, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He was born September 8, 1927, in Bloomington, the
6son of Ruel and Hulda Hanell Gillis; he married Josephine M.
7Pickett on February 18, 1950, in Decatur; and
 
8    WHEREAS, He was an active member of the West Twin Grove
9Christian Church in Bloomington; he worked at Ralston Purina
10Company for 37 years and farmed in rural Bloomington and raised
11livestock and sheep; he was well known locally and nationally
12throughout the sheep industry where he had made many friends;
13and
 
14    WHEREAS, He served in the United States Army; he was a
15supporter of 4-H and was a former superintendent and judge at
16the fair; and
 
17    WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents;
18his brother, Jack; and his son-in-law, Jerry Bryant; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Robert Gillis is survived by his children, Marcia
20(Doug) Olson, Bill (Phyllis) Gillis, Connie Bryant, and Barb

1(Aaron) Quick; his grandchildren, Aaron Olson, Kirstin
2(Nathan) Hawley, Jenny Gillis, Pam Gillis, Ron Gillis, Jacob
3(Kelly) Vial, and Molly (Brandon) Laue; his great-grandson,
4Charlie Hawley; his sister, Dorothy Basting; and many nieces
5and nephews; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
8his family and friends, the passing of Robert Gillis; and be it
9further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the family of Robert Gillis as a symbol of our
12sincere sympathy.
