SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Glenola Lashley of Chicago, who passed
4away on March 30, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, She was born December 31, 1937 in Memphis,
6Tennessee; her mother was Lena Carr and her stepfather was
7Tillman Moore; she was married to Lester Lashley and was the
8devoted mother of ten children; and
 
9    WHEREAS, She was Born Again at Tabernacle Baptist Church,
10an event which she considered the greatest thing that ever
11happened in her life; a deeply religious lady, she also
12attended several other churches over the years, including New
13Friendship, Evangelist Hope Church, Monument of Faith, Comfort
14Ye My People, and Crusaders Church; and
 
15    WHEREAS, She contributed greatly to her community through
16her work at the S.O.S. House and Brothers Reaching Out, the
17Garfield Counseling Center, the Chicago Juvenile Advisory
18Council, Reaching the Mark Foster Care, and other
19organizations; and
 
20    WHEREAS, She also served as LSC President, Block Club
21President, First DAC Chairperson for the 7th District CAPS

1Program (Chicago Police Department), Director of the New
2Friendship Junior Choir, and Vice President of the 17th Ward
3Democratic Organization, and she was one of the founders of the
47th District Pastors of Englewood; and
 
5    WHEREAS, She was employed at Independence Bank; as an
6Administrative Assistant and later Chief of Staff for the 17th
7Ward Alderman; and as Community Specialist and District Manager
8at the Englewood Office of the Chicago Department of Human
9Services; and
 
10    WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester
11Lashley; her mother, Lena C. Moore; her brother, Paul; her
12sisters, Dicie and Irene; her son, Lee; her grandsons, Akeem
13and Stephen; and her great-grandchild, Zareia; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Glenola Lashley is survived by her children,
15Robert, Joanie, Joseph (Denise), Lena (Terry), Juanita
16(Walter), Lester (Pamela), Erick (Theresa), Glenda, and John
17(Victory); her grandchildren, Andre, Robert Jr., Robin
18(Darrin), Devin, Rahsaan, Raini, Jerryce (Lee), Jerrita,
19Joseph, Jasmine, Jamelle, Joseph II, Charmaine, Lateeba,
20Jamiyla, Brandon, Tyese, Alton, Michael (Tichanti), Rashad,
21Shadra, Shalah, Rocelia (Demolis), Cornell, Marcus, Rashawn,
22Malcolm, Walter Jr., Selina, Alexandra, Patricia, Carisha,
23Latraya, Natasha, Joshua, Ericka, Erin, Erick II, Elden, Samuel

10therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
13her family and friends, the passing of Glenola Lashley; and be
14it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Glenola Lashley as a symbol of our
17sincere sympathy.
