SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Howard Rosset Conant Sr.; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Howard Conant Sr. was born in Chicago in 1924; he
5was a graduate of Von Steuben High School; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Howard Conant Sr. served his country with pride
7and distinction as a Japanese interpreter in the United States
8Army from 1943 to 1946 before earning his bachelor's degree
9from the Wharton School of Business at the University of
10Pennsylvania; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Howard Conant Sr. founded Interstate Steel
12Company, a steel service center, in Des Plaines in 1946 while
13he was still a university student; he also served as president
14of the Elliott Paint Company; when Elliott was acquired by the
15Valspar Corporation, he became a director at Valspar; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Howard Conant Sr. was an avid tennis player,
17continuing to play singles and doubles tournaments until he was
1885; in 2009 and 2010, he was a ranked #1 in singles by the
19Chicago District Tennis Association in the 80 and over
20division; he also loved books and his classes at Northwestern
21University's Learning in Retirement Program; and

1    WHEREAS, Howard Conant Sr. was a director of Facets
2Multimedia for over 30 years; he was also a founding member in
3the Business Executives Move for Vietnam Peace and an active
4peace advocate throughout his life; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Howard Conant Sr. was preceded in death by his
6parents and his sister, Doris Lawson; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Howard Conant Sr. is survived by his children,
8Alison Conant (Rick Frank), Howard Jr. (Pam Rahmann) and
9Meredith George, and his grandchildren, Sarah and Andy Frank,
10Rachel and Sophie Conant, and Madelyn, Monica, and Mason
11George; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
14his family and friends, the passing of Howard Rosset Conant
15Sr.; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Howard Conant Sr. as an expression
18of our sympathy.
