SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Brittani Nichole Shurtz of Benton, who
4passed away on August 20, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, She was born on December 31, 1989, in St. Louis;
6she was a cancer survivor; her courageous battle was an
7inspiration to all who knew her; and
 
8    WHEREAS, She graduated with the class of 2008 from Benton
9Consolidated High School; she was a cheerleader and homecoming
10attendant her freshman and senior years; she attended Rend Lake
11College and John A. Logan College; and
 
12    WHEREAS, She was an avid animal lover and was majoring in
13veterinary nursing; she loved movies, music, concerts, or just
14hanging out with friends and family; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Brittani Shurtz is survived by her loving parents,
16Steve Shurtz and Michelle Shurtz and her fiancée, Scott
17Peavler; her sister, Taylor Koch; her paternal grandparents,
18Rodney and Marjorie Shurtz; her maternal grandparents, Kenneth
19and Roberta Barnfield; her maternal great-grandmother,
20Margaret Piercy; several aunts and uncles, Rod and Tonya
21Shurtz, Carl Shurtz, Kathy Shurtz, Jeff and Natalie Shurtz, Dan

1and Cindy Schmechel, and Kenneth and Brandice Barnfield; her
2cousins, Natasha, Seiger, Sayler, Macy, and Nathan Shurtz, and
3Chelsea Barnfield; her special friends, Don and Harriett Koch;
4and high school sweetheart and former husband, Gavin Nolen;
5therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
7ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
8her family and friends, the passing of Brittani Shurtz; and be
9it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the family of Brittani Shurtz as a symbol of our
12sincere sympathy.
