| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of
Robert G. Rice of Benton, who passed away |
| 4 | | on September 2, 2011; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Robert Rice was born on August 1, 1915, in Benton; |
| 6 | | his parents were Om-er and Daisy (Moore) Rice; he married Rose |
| 7 | | Dallape on January 27, 1940; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Robert Rice served his country with pride and |
| 9 | | distinction as a member of the United States Navy during World |
| 10 | | War II until his honorable discharge; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, After serving in the military, Robert Rice and his |
| 12 | | wife started Rice Produce, which later became Rice Foods; he |
| 13 | | successfully ran the business until his retirement in 1985; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Robert Rice was an active member and supporter of |
| 15 | | North Benton Baptist Church for more than 70 years; he and his |
| 16 | | wife were ardent supporters of Benton and Rend Lake College and |
| 17 | | established the first endowment fund at Rend Lake College to |
| 18 | | guarantee a perpetual annual scholarship to assist Rend Lake |
| 19 | | College students; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Robert Rice and his wife were named the Benton |
|

| 1 | | Chamber of Commerce Citizens of the Year in 1993 for their |
| 2 | | service in the community; and
|
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Robert Rice was preceded in death by his parents; |
| 4 | | his son, Robert Douglas Rice; his brother, John Rice; his |
| 5 | | sister-in-law, Wilma Rice; his sister, Betty Rice Jones; his |
| 6 | | brother-in-law, Bertis Jones; and several brothers-in-law and |
| 7 | | sisters-in-law; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Robert Rice is survived by his wife, Rose Dallape |
| 9 | | Rice; his daughter, Eleanor Rice Glenn and her husband, Nealy; |
| 10 | | his daughter-in-law, Maureen German Rice; his grandchildren, |
| 11 | | Michelle Glenn Mote (Keith), Kristin Glenn Haycocks (Ian), |
| 12 | | Cheryl Glenn (Weslyn), Elisabeth Rice (Pete) Fung, and Daniel |
| 13 | | Rice (Rosslind); his great-grandchildren, Erica Mote, Erin |
| 14 | | Mote, Haydn Haycocks, Gus Haycocks, Jordan Fung, Jacob Fung, |
| 15 | | Caleb Fung, Devrah Fung, Braden Rice, Zachary Rice, and |
| 16 | | Nicholas Whitlock; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, |
| 17 | | be it

| 18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL |
| 19 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with |
| 20 | | his family and friends, the passing of Robert G. Rice; and be |
| 21 | | it further
