SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of United States Marine Corps Captain
4Jeffrey C. Bland of Champaign, who passed away on September 19,
52011; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Capt. Jeffrey Bland was born on January 15, 1974;
7he graduated from Galesburg High School in 1992; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Capt. Jeffrey Bland attended the University of
9Illinois before joining the United States Marine Corps on June
1010, 1997; he was assigned to Training Squadron 303, Marine
11Aircraft Group 39 of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing at Air
12Station Miramar in San Diego, California at the time of his
13passing; he also served two tours in Iraq; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Capt. Jeffrey Bland was the recipient of numerous
15awards for his meritorious service, including two Navy Marine
16Corps Commendation medals, the Selected Marine Corps Reserve
17Medal, the Air Medal, the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, the
18Iraq Campaign Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the
19Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, three Sea Service
20Deployment Ribbons, and the Korean Defense Service Medal; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Capt. Jeffrey Bland is survived by his wife,

1Heather, and his daughter, Aliana; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Capt. Jeffrey Bland's patriotism and courage will
3be remembered fondly by his loving family, his fellow soldiers,
4and the citizens of our grateful nation; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
7his family and friends, the passing of United States Marine
8Corps Captain Jeffrey C. Bland; and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to the family of Capt. Jeffrey Bland as an expression
11of our sympathy.
