SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Denzil "D.C." Simpson of Harrisburg, who
4passed away on September 15, 2011; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Denzil Simpson was born on February 5, 1930; his
6parents were Stella (Jones) and Cloyd Simpson; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Denzil Simpson served his country with pride and
8distinction as a member of the United States Army from 1952 to
91953; he received the Purple Heart for being wounded in the
10Battle of Pork Chop Hill during the Korean War; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Denzil Simpson was the former co-owner of Equality
12Mining, D & S Stone Co., D & S Trucking, Hardin County
13Materials, Barnett Redi-Mix, Fredonia Valley Quarries, and
14Tison Hall Concrete; he also served as a board member at Old
15National Bank for many years; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Denzil Simpson was a longtime member of the
17Masonic Lodge, Shriners, the American Legion, and the VFW; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Denzil Simpson was an avid quail hunter and
19fisherman; he enjoyed hunting trips to his farm in South Dakota
20each year with his sons and good friends; he enjoyed overseeing

1and taking care of his farm in Pope County and sports,
2especially his Harrisburg Bulldogs and the St. Louis Cardinals;
3he also had the honor of being the Grand Marshal of the Holiday
4Lights Parade last year; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Denzil Simpson was preceded in death by his
6parents and his brother, Bob Simpson; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Denzil Simpson is survived by his beautiful wife
8of 59 years, Wilma (Banks) Simpson; his children, Bobby Gene
9and his wife, Cathy, Richard Lee and his wife, Cindy, and Beth
10Ann and her husband, David Montfort; his siblings, Charles
11"Bimp" Simpson, Ronnie Simpson, and Norma Travelstead; his
12grandchildren, Jennifer Simpson, Emily Simpson, Clint Simpson,
13Melissa (Paul) Tikusis, and Kalin and Dawson Montfort; and his
14great-grandchildren, Grant, Evan, Haley, Gracie, and Marshall;
15therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
18his family and friends, the passing of Denzil "D.C." Simpson;
19and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Denzil Simpson as an expression of
22our sympathy.
